Bathtub Drain Installation
After removing the old stopper take out the old drain flange or the housing that connects the tub and drain to the pipe below.
Bathtub drain installation. From underneath the sink i added the rubber ring by first adding a dab of silicone to the threads to. Fairly simple drain system. Cover the underside of the new flange with plumbers putty then twist it into the drain opening. A long screwdriver plumbers pliers channel locks a properly sized wrench to fit the body of the drain key or really big channel locks vice grips. Make sure to use 100 silicone and apply a generous bead before dropping the drain into the sink hole.
To install a bathtub start by installing a 2 by 4 inch ledger board to the length of the wall that the long edge of the tub will be against. Whether you re fixing a faulty drain or upgrading your hardware installing a new drain is a fairly straightforward job. Here are a few bathtub drain schematics and bathtub plumbing diagrams. Then attach the drain to the new tub and connect the overflow drain.
A good way to avoid cross threading is to start tightening by hand first. Slide the nut and washer onto the overflow pipe as well as the drain shoe. Connect the drain and overflow pipes to the drain t fitting. The rubber gasket on the bathtub should be put on the part that hooks to the tub.
Install the new tub drain fitting. Apply a generous band of plumber s putty to the bottom of the flange on the new fitting. Fasten shorter ledger boards to the ends of the enclosure level with the board you install on the back wall. The new bathtub drain.
Tighten the nuts with pliers. To ensure a watertight seal i m applying a bead of silicone all around the drain pipe. Next set the tub in place and secure it to the studs using the vertical lip around the outside of it. Remove the tub stopper from the new drain fitting.
